Centre proposes full refund in 15 days on air tickets booked earlier than lockdown


NEW DELHI: In an affidavit filed earlier than the Supreme Court docket, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Directorate Common of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have proposed that passengers who booked their air tickets earlier than March 25 could be entitled to a full refund by the airline inside 15 days.

The proposal by the Centre states that if any airline is in monetary misery then the fare quantity shall be saved in a credit score shell which might be availed by the passenger for journey by the identical airline on any route of his/her alternative earlier than March 31, 2021. 

If a passenger doesn’t want to journey, the credit score shell might be transferred to any particular person.

If the quantity is unused, curiosity will accrue each month on this quantity and the identical is to be refunded in full after March 31, 2021.

The Centre mentioned there shall be an incentive mechanism to compensate the passenger if there’s a delay in consuming the credit score shell – from the date of cancellation as much as June 30, 2020, the worth of credit score shell shall be enhanced by zero.5 per cent of the face worth (the quantity of fare collected) for each month or half thereof between the date of cancellation and 30th June, 2020.
