Drought declared last year, yet to get compensation, farmers’ unions stage sit-in

Deogarh: The region was declared drought-prone last year. However, the compensation is yet to be paid. Farmers in different gram panchayat areas of Deogarh district who lost crops because of drought during the last kharif season haven’t gotten the money yet. Friday, members of the District Farmers’ Struggle Association sat down in front of the office of the district chief agriculture officer.

Last year, drought was declared in five gram panchayats in the Deogarh district, but farmers in the area have not yet received the money to help them. Farmers in Karlga, Palshama, Nuadihi, Khilei, and Dantaribahal gram panchayats of the district are yet to receive the compensation amount. The group has also said that the district government is not trying to solve the problems that the farmers are having. The farmers have finally cornered the district chief agriculture officer after failing to get justice at various places
