Rairangpur, : A female elephant died after falling into a well. One of these bad things happened in the village of Dalaidihi, which is in the Rairangpur forest division of the Mayurbhanj district. According to reports, a herd of 12 elephants had come to the village late last night to eat the paddy crop. One of the female elephants from the herd fell into a well near the village. The other elephants kept a vigil near the well for a long time but could not be rescued and eventually left the place and fled to the forest under Bisoi range.

Early in the morning, the villagers spotted an elephant lying in the well and informed the forest department. On being informed, forest officials and staff rushed to the spot and rescued the elephant. The medical team was also called in. However, the medical team declared the elephant dead. Rairangpur ACF informed that the elephant was buried by digging a pit after the post-mortem.
