Indian Navy arrests 15 Tamil Nadu fishermen

New Delhi: The Sri Lankan Navy on Saturday arrested 15 fishermen from Tamil Nadu. Action has been taken against them for allegedly fishing in Sri Lankan waters. Two boats have been seized from them. Around 2,500 fishermen had gone fishing in 400 boats on Saturday evening.

But they claimed that they were surrounded and chased by a Patrol Boat of the Sri Lankan Navy while they were fishing near Dhanushkodi and Thalamananar.

Around 15 fishermen were caught in the raid. Two of their boats have been seized for allegedly crossing the maritime border. The Indian fishermen have been taken to the Navy camp in Thalaimanna after their arrest. They will be handed over to the fisheries department after an inspection by the Sri Lankan Navy. Interestingly, a 12-year-old boy is among the 15 fishermen arrested.

Therefore, the families of the fishermen have demanded that the arrested be rescued. Sri Lanka had alleged that Indian fishermen had entered its waters but the fishermen, however, denied the allegations.
