New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday proposed “one nation, one uniform” for the country’s police. which shows one of the standpoints of the BJP government’s’ single ‘ideology. “It’s just an idea,” he said. But it is not mandatory. He asked the states to think about the proposal. For the police, one nation, one uniform is just a consideration. I’m not trying to impose it on you. You can consider this proposal.
It may take 5,50 or 100 years to change. But i don’t think there is any problem if we adopt this proposal,” he said. Addressing the “chintan shivir” of the state home minister, Modi said the identity of the police should be the same across the country. Modi also supported Amit Shah’s proposal in favour of uniform law in the country.
In his address via video conferencing, Pm Modi said that while maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the states, it is related to the unity and integrity of the country. The session in Haryana’s Surajkund is a shining example of cooperative federalism. “States can learn from each other, draw inspiration from each other and work together for the betterment of the country. This is the spirit of our Constitution and our duty towards the citizens.
The Prime Minister said that law and order is not limited to one state as crime is spreading to the inter-state and international sectors. The coordination of state and central law enforcement agencies is needed as criminals from across the border are using technology.
