The fire spread to the garage on the ground floor of the building. Nine Indians and a Bangladeshi national were charred to death in the fire. According to officials, 10 bodies were recovered from the top floor after the fire broke out.

The fire that spread from the car repairing garage was so terrible that it took four hours for the fire department personnel to douse the flames. According to police, indian and Bangladeshi nationals were among the dead. The Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives has condoled the loss of lives in the Male fire. The high commission pointed out that it was in touch with the Maldivian government. A top Maldivian government official said police were trying to identify the deceased.

The Maldives National Disaster Management Authority tweeted that relief and rehabilitation centres have been set up at a stadium for male fire victims. Apart from this, arrangements have been made to provide all kinds of help to the affected people. However, after this fire, the problem of foreign workers living in dangerous conditions in the Maldives has once again come to the fore. Various political parties in the Maldives have said that foreign workers have to live in pitiable conditions here.

Most of the workers in the Maldives are from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Their pitiable condition here was first known during the Corona period. At that time, corona spread three times faster in foreign workers than in the local people. As a result, many foreign workers fell ill.
