New Delhi: The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation’s license has been cancelled. The central government on Sunday took a major crackdown on non-governmental organizations affiliated with the Gandhi family. The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) license of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) has been taken away by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The home ministry has taken the action under the Foreign Regulation Act. The organization was accused of violating the Foreign Contribution Act.
According to the Home Ministry in July 2020, the MHA had set up the inquiry committee within the ministry. The decision has been taken on the basis of its report. The inquiry committee included officials from MHM, ED, CBI and Income Tax. The notice to cancel the FCRA licence has been sent to the office of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.
Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the president of the RGF. The trustees include former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former ministers P Chidambaram, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
