Amritsar: A tragic incident took place in Punjab’s Amritsar on Friday afternoon. Sudhir Suri, the chief of the local outfit “Shiv Sena,” was shot dead. He was sitting on a dharna in front of a local temple when he was shot with a pistol. Sandeep Singh, the lone accused in the case, has been arrested. He is said to be a local shopkeeper. A pistol has been seized from him.
According to reports, some broken idols were found outside a local temple. Sudhir Suri had a heated argument with the temple management over this. He was sitting on a dharna in front of the temple when he was shot at.
Suri’s life was in danger. He used to make controversial remarks and always target a particular religion. So he was on the hit list. That’s why he was provided security. Though the police were present, the accused fired five rounds at Suri with his pistol. Two of them hit Suri’s body. He died on the spot.
After the incident, the people present there beat up the accused. It is being said that the accused came there with three more people in an SUV. The others, however, fled from there. It is not clear why the accused killed Suri. While the police did not say anything about it, they urged people to maintain peace.
On the other hand, the opposition has attacked the AAP government in Punjab after the incident took place in The Dindeepah in Amritsar. BJP leader Tajinder Singh Bagga said the law and order situation in Punjab has completely collapsed.
Sudhir Suri was arrested in July last year for his controversial remarks against a particular religion. It hurt the sentiments of the people of that religion.
