New Delhi: The Uniform Civil Code (UNIFORM) rules, or uniform civil code, may come into force in Gujarat and Uttarakhand. The two states are planning to come up with a proposal in the cabinet to set up a committee in this regard. The committee will be headed by a retired high court judge. The committee will look at the pros and cons of putting the Uniform Civil Code into place and make a report. This has been reported in the national media.
Most importantly, the committee will be formed today (October 29, 2022). Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Singhvi said this at a press conference at 3 pm today. Harsh Singhvi, the Home Minister of Gujarat, said that the Gujarat cabinet has approved the creation of a committee to carry out the UCC.
It is learnt that the government will implement the UCC rules after the committee is formed to evaluate all aspects and submit its report. Uttarakhand will form a six-member committee headed by retired judge Ranjan Desai to implement the UCC
